5 day break :) well of sorts

Yeah right. I can dream can't I :) First one is much better - at least speaks english. Anyway, folks have a good weekend and the week ahead. Be back on the weekend of 5th onwards. Hopefully with many pictures of japanese food. Fake or otherwise .... Akhihabara - matte iru yo!!

i am flattened out :(

I haven't been updating so frequently. Been working flat out the past 2 weeks and running around back and forth different places. My aunt was also hospitalized last weekend for a fall, so i have been helping mom and dad run lot errands. Work is a bit of overwhelming as well.

Hopefully after my break - i will rejuvenate (^_^)V. Hopefully.

It's all about the pork balls, not the chicken

I was busy digging up my PC for old photos of food which i have not blogged about. I have not been eating out recently, because i was quite busy and there is an austerity drive happening. Am saving up for this baby:
Neko's potential new darling. Potential, okay?

And also in a few days, i'd be leaving for the land of the rising sun for 8days of "ryoko(holiday)". Much as i love japan, i hate the tour operator(fruit like sounding company) we are going with but there is not much choice, since we have paid up and they actually offer the places in Japan which is more unique. Well, should make the most of it anyway. ^_^V. By the way, i am potentially visiting Oz land for Cousin Sarita's wedding. This Jetstar booking thingy is gee darn confusing (*-*)

Back to food blogging, i found some pictures taken in Ipoh way back on the famous Chicken rice and bean sprouts... only to find... the chicken was not the main pictures in focus.. Lo
l... Lousy photographer lah me.

This was around the time my cousins from Kangaroo land, drop back to Malaysia for their yearly visit. Cousin Flea is a fan of pork like me ( runs in the family ) and somet
imes when the big brood is back, my aunt has a hard time cooking for all of us. So we ... eat out. It's cheap to eat out according to the aussie folks. Of course. The conversion rate is GOOD for them. One thing we didn't like though was the place was w-e-t after a torrential rain that late afternoon. Ipoh is one place sloshing around post rain can be pretty ..gross.

There is this road in Ipoh which is famous for bean sprouts and chicken rice. An
d the shop is called Lou Wong. It's a corner shop, left and right are surrounded by yes, chicken rice shop. Ipoh chicken rice, is not the roasted kind, but the steamed style, with lots of soy sauce added to the chicken as a base sauce.

You can eat it with flat rice noodles or yellow rice. I am more into rice then the flat rice noodles. I need to savor the soy sauce ( lol - hair drops because of too much soy sauce ) Now, lou wong not only serves chicken but they have:

* These gorgeous pork balls as a side serving. They are minced pork with little bits of cuttlefish embedded into it. i could eat 10 of these at one go.
* Chicken feet. Ok, so i am not so into this but my parents, uncle and aunts love this. Must be the older folks are fond of this delicacy. Us young uns' are not too keen on chicken feet.
* Big fat ipoh bean sprouts which are fat and white. You seldom find fat a
nd white in KL, they only have skinny and long beansprouts in ipoh. The theory is that Ipoh water is some what better than the KL water, hence fat and white bean sprouts. I like fat and white bean sprouts :)

In this restaurant, er, the waiters are not really trained up as the fine dining restaurants. Cranky waiters come and ask you what to drink or shove a tray ful
l of drinks into your face and you select.

Waitress are slightly more friendly and try to ply all sorts of food into your face. My uncle, normally orders everything until we pop. I guess in Sydney you don't find as tasty chinese food as you do in KL, huh?

So let's get to the food. Ok, up first. Yes, star of the day for me, pork balls. Two bowls were ordered for the 10 of us. Nice and crunchy. I hate soft pork balls, but this is just right. The cuttle fish added to it gives it an extra flavor that goes very well. Ahem, i had about 6 of these before being glared at by others. So we ordered another bowl *shy* Oh, btw, you need to eat it with their chilli sauce. It goes very well together.

Fat and white!! Bean sprouts not the chicken. Doused in a healthy or rather unhealthy serving of oil, sesame oil, soy sauce and pepper. *Lup* I lups it even more when there is rice in which i can drown it with sauce.

Finally, the chicken makes a presence in the picture. Somewhere behind there. The chicken is quite tender and tasty, plus what true blue cantonese people call "wat" or smooth. No one likes to eat old and tough birds.

However, the bone bit is still a bit red which sometimes freaks me out a bit. I still prefer eating the chicken breasts compared to other parts of the chook as that is guaranteed less red ( with not much bone around ). My parents and relatives love the chicken feet from this shop. Normally they order about 2 plates when they come here and they usually finish it up. By the way, a family of 10, we whacked the whole chicken, 2 plates of taugeh, 3 bowls of pork balls and 2 plates of chicken feet.

I don't mind coming back here for more chick.., i mean pork balls and bean sprouts.

One of those days....

It's one of those days - that i am bit lazy to post about food and decided to scuttle around the house with my Canon Powershot S3. I love that camera but rarely have an op to take a lot of photos BESIDES food :) Anyway, here's some pictures taken in my garden. Naturally handsome boy here is the model :)..

I followed this dragonfly dude and his mate around for a good 1/2 hour in the garden. Luckily they decided to settle down on my laundry line outside. My legs felt like jelly after being in a rather strange position to get these shots.

Dunno what flower is this but it is sure darn pretty. Smells very sweet at night as well.

El Cerdo's - All Hail Pork

It's quite fitting to start this post with a picture of shot of Vodka, lime & salt. In the current state of affairs after the euphoria of last week election weekend, some of the things that has been happening, leaves a bitter distaste in my mouth.

That would be a much longer story and a diff
erent sort of post, but i thought, hey, a thumb on the nose to the selfish and sore losers out there is by putting these sentences next to a shot of vodka. Followed by lots of piggy pictures. *LOL*.

This politically inclined cat shall now fully go into food blogging. A week or so back, it was NY'sy and since 2005, or was it 4, we've been pretty good friends. Going hunting, eating, pork eating searching or vegetarian eating. He's not only been supportive as a vendor in our company's business initiatives but as a friend as well. What better way to celebrate his birthday with a group of close friends, is to take him to eat. PORK. Buta in japanese, or chee yoke in cantonese.

El-Cerdo's is a place he wanted to go many time
s with FF, FF'S Hubby ( who he shall be nicked name now accordingly) Walking Contradiction & partner, LTC & LE. For most of us, this was a first time as we heard NY salivating about this place for ages. I made the necessary arrangements ( booking etc ) and we were set for dinner. I am told this place has entertaining qualities to it.. I should say it should be rightfully termed as "STRESS RELIEVING" qualities as you shall soon see.

The waiters and waitress highly amuse me here. I have no idea what they are saying and they have no idea what i am saying. Where are they from?? I think they are speaking English but i really cannot figure out what they are trying to say. Anyway, they served us the complimentary soup with some sausage bits inside. I think it is lentil soup as i saw a lot beans inside and served in these cappuccino cups. Cute. Tasty as well.

Appetizers came next. This is bouqurones -which is Bacon wrapped with anchovies, fried in oil and served with some leek salad and onion ring. Goodness, this was astonishingly tasty! Imagine combination of bacon and anchovies which should be weird but it was not. The leek was amazingly tasty as well. It taste good enough to eat without the tartar sauce.

To balance off what could be potentially a really meaty night, we had a plate of salad and potatoes as a a side order. Unfortunately, we thought the plate of salad was a tad small for the price we paid. By the time it came to LTC and me, we had about 2-3 leaves between ourselves... Mental note, get more salad next time.

Next, the piece the resistance... it's stress relieving time. Mr Waiter here, came to elaborate on what we are about to do next.

Everybody is poised to .. chop. Yes, chop. The plates are weapons of mass destruction or so the pig thinks. It's tender enough to be just cut by the plates showing you how tender and soft it is. The piggy was quite large and we had enough left overs to have a piggy bag. Taste wise, not bad. The meat is tender and fatty at the same time. It's topped with a lovely brown sauce which i have no idea what it is. But if you compared it to our Malaysianized siew yoke and "suckling pig" i'd still prefer our siew yoke hands down.

The goat's cheese pasta that was ordered by CG ( or FF'S Hubby ).Actually this is quite tasty, i love the pasta but i was not too fond of the pork bits which had some hard bits that i had to take out. Size of this portion was pretty small as well. Ordering 2 plates is too much but one plate seems a bit small for 8 persons.

At the end, we got the owner, werner to set up something special for NY, which is our desserts nicely decorated on a tray and the waiters singing an "OINKY" birthday. Birthday boy is in the middle grinning with glee. The dessert was a berry sherbet with grappa. It's was sour and sweet enough to end our rather piggy meal with this dessert. On top of it, we had our complimentary vodka shot. OoOh this is my first time drinking vodka and me likez :) very much. *hic*

Overall, this place is quite entertaining. Food wise, it's delicious definitely. Price wise- shocking. Let it be known if your ordering the full piggy- you are paying about RM219 for the pig. Neko is shocked that food can be so fantastically expensive. Service wise - excellent. The owner was nice enough to come and recommend dishes to us and also helping us to set up the surprise for NY. I would come here again for more special occasions but not for every day dining.

Well, it was a good night anyway, we enjoyed the plate throwing and the company. To NY, happy b'day and hope there is many more ( less expensive ) sessions like this . hehehe :)

Mom's birthday @ King Crab

All i can say about the March 8th GE results is this - We finally have spoken up. :) Kudos Malaysians!! You all rock! To the newly elected people - better keep your promises. We can do the same to you.

I am not very vocal about what i think of our government in my blogs but ... i just needed to put in these 2 sentences. Now, back to the serious world of food blogging.

It's my mom's B'day and ... tough luck she shares it with Samy Vellu. You should see her face when i told her on Friday. She was like -_____________-" Anyway, election day, we woke up bright and early to poll. Lord have mercy, people in USJ REALLY wake up early to go for polling. At 8:15 there was a Q in USJ 12 school. I thought most people like to sleep in. Then it was a rush to look for a bouquet for my mom. She loves Gerbeas... ( is this how u spell it?)

We made booking for King Crab a few days earlier. It was funny, dad sounded so serious when he sat next to me for dinner one day and said...... with a pause.... "where should we go for mom's b'day dinner?"
Me: Eh? I thought you say Crocodile farm again?
Dad: No lah your cousins protest ... same place woh..
Me: Ok... then why ask me...

Dad: You are a paid food blogger mah.... ( he is referring to nuffnang)
Me: -_-" Dad, that is not a paid food blogger -lah.. Ok ok i go look for somethin

After much searching and scouring other people's blogs, i finally proposed King Crab. Choosing a chinese restaurant for me is very difficult in my family. Must have the following criterias:
* Large portions - i have a family member whose stomach is like the great pit.
* Large BUT reasonable price portions
* Must be un-halal.
* Must have air-con and NO Karaoke.
* Near and not so far.

Like that how?? All the possible candidates within the vicinity all whipped out already. Next year, the honor of organizing of such activities shall go to my brother. He has been avoiding this kind of planning since he started earning his first income. Anyway, i take it my dad has finally gotten used to my food blogging. Or... he thinks i have better ideas than my brother * LOL *

Lucky thing about King Crab- Got Online menu.... my dad can have a look at it. So we ordered a set of from their menu. Wow.... mental note next time - NO SET!! This is like Ipoh Portions man.. Huge!!!
Obscene GeoDucks & Large Abalone

While waiting for some very late cousins ( ahem - who wanted this to be at 6:30pm???? and arrived at 7:15pm ), i decided to do a spot of photographing... Father's face was -____-. This is good. Normally he is -_______________________- . The length is much shorter now. King Crab has an amazing.. aquarium i should say. The size of those abalone is amazing. Do you think the GeoDUCKS on topmost tank looks OBSCENE??? Ini mesti kena sensor one...

Then there was this fella, once i saw him... all i could think was the word - "Haro". I pointed to this for my dad but he said - NO. Sigh. I like crabs.


Little Nephew Gerald, who normally eats at home first brought his snack of Swiss roll. Looks a bit hard leh..... My other nephew Brendan is behind - giving us the sleepy look. Gerald couldn't care less if i was next to him, just eat first. Deal with the annoying aunty later.

For us adults, we were served Acar. I think everyone like this, we asked for extra. I hope i didn't have to pay extra. Now, our set comes with 7 dishes with added Noodle. Not all food pictures made the cut because some were blurry and there were sharks jumping on tables. (Family Joke)

This is the 4 seasons dish. Menu said 3 but then 4 came out. Hmm... Menu not updated to web -kwah. But i really like this dish. Especially the one that looks like a sausage. Lovely! Only thing we found the sushi look alike smells a bit fishy. Put a lot of us off.
I manage to actually take a picture of the fish after everyone had a their first bite. This is steamed Patin in superior sauce i think. Sauce is good. If i had rice i will be drowning in sauce. I love the fish meat - no FISH smell. *YEAH*. But fish is very small. :( Not enough for us to go round ) in 3 minutes the fish looked like that.

Cheeks and eyes are gone!!! Who ate it? This is an example of how people enjoy fish. For me, i just eat around the fin area only. Sorry, i have very strange food preferences. Chicken breasts, certain part of fishes and avoid hotate wings.... Something to that effect. I could write a whole post on that.

Halfway through, everyone got up to watch the election results... Even the waitresses and the waiter... I curi more food first lah since everyone is so distracted. *Snicker*

The usual customary veggie dish. Awesome. I like this. So tasty and flavorful. I like the fact they added fresh water chesnuts in. Sweet and tasty.

Oats coated prawns. So fresh! I ate about 4-5 prawns. Yummy. But still got enough to tar pau.

Prawn skin piling up, and i am still stuffing them in. Yumz. The oats are also coated lightly with curry powder and some chilly to give it a kick.

Ok, actually this is about the noodle but not the girl. But she had such a hard time trying to scoop the noodles out using that makeshift clamp of fork and spoon. Tee-Hee because of that she deserves a picture here. The noodles were excellent. Don't have strong "kan" siu and the meat has no pork smell. By this time, i was SUPER full already.

They served us a lovely dessert of cincau and longan that did not make the cut here. Blurry pictures. However 2 flavor pancake dish ended up here. Not bad but check out the OIL.... SCARY. I used the provided tissue to dab off the oil.

I give this place a thumbs up. I know a lot of bloggers have come here before- sorry, slow but i really think this is a value for money place. That's if you don't call geoduck and stuff like that :). I heard they now have VIP rooms. Aiya, should have book that lah. Not so noisy.... Do make a booking before you head along there. It gets very crowded during peak hours. Service is fast but at least you won't be so disappointed if you have no place to sit.

Pancake House International@Sunway Pyramid

Observation: I seem to be eating a lot of breakfast like food at different hours of the day. Before that was egg tart, then dim sum .... Hmm.

I found this Pancake House in Sunway Pyramid next to J.CO. I was flying solo that week, no one at home just me and my CSI:NY box. Freedom!!! I hope my dad does not read this ( he recently started reading food blogs ) but i really enjoy the peace and quiet when there is absolutely NO ONE AT HOME. And... i can eat what i like without having to worry if there are other people who don't like what i eat. For some reason, sushi ( i stared blankly at Sushi Groove's menu with no appeal that day) did not really appeal to me that day, so after wandering around for a good 10 minutes, i settled on - Pancakes. :) My favorite food since Uni days. In Oz land, i used to buy the mix and whip it up for breakfast. Sometimes i cook so much of it i had to stuff my 2 housemate... Talk about not planning what i am cooking... Since coming back to KL i stopped making and eating it because it is a chore to share kitchen with my mom * tee -hee* ....

The place was a bit empty initially, so i brought my book and looked at the menu.. Variety wise, they cannot beat paddington. Their base is really pancakes but the offer more full bodied food like chicken patties/past as their main meals. And you can choose the number of pan
cakes, 2 or 3. Depending on your stomach and of course budget. Mine was ruled by size of my tummy. I picked a blueberry pancake as my pancake of choice. And it is 2 pancakes not 3. I don't want to feel and look like a whale - thank you. Which i already am. And a cup of cappuccino - i was really sleepy for some reason that day.


When coffee came, people were starting to come in and the place was getting a bit packed. How does one rate their coffee? Not bad. Very strong on Cinnamon - for those who like Cinnamon ( that's me ) will enjoy this but those who don't may find it overwhelming. You can't compare this to Starbucks or Coffee Bean but still enjoyable.
Then the star of the day - my blueberry pancake. Can't see blueberry, right? It's inside. :) Unfortunately no pics of the inside - i was too busy enjoying the pancake. You think the white stuff is ice cream? No, it is actually whipped cream butter, so soft and fluffly. And i am lucky i ordered 2 only... I was quite full after eating this. This is served with a pale lilac sauce which i find that it doesn't really enhance the taste. So i just ate it plain as above with the whipped cream. It was nice and fluffy just as pancakes should be.

So compared to Paddington and Singapore's Cedele, what do i think about Pancake house? Not bad. Not as showy in presentation compared to the formers but quite reasonable from my view. This cost me less than RM16. 2 blueberry pancakes is about RM9.80.

Pancake house is quite international- seems it is from Manila. Which explains why i thought the waitress don't seem local.

I recommend this for people who like to eat pancakes but think that Paddy is a tad too much for your budget. Quite popular during lunch.

Supernatural Season 3


I praise the lord that the writer's strike is OVER because i get to see these 2 handsome men :). I have to admit i am an american series addict. A more selective addict to be precise. I don't watch everything only things that appeal to my interest. Like these 2 guys. Of course. Who was watching it for anything else? *cough*. Ok, so besides the 2 good looking guys, the series does pique my interest. I like supernatural stuff so it was keeps me interested. And besides.. i scream for no reason even though i know something creepy is going to happen. Dad shakes his head in disbelief ... when i watch everything behind a pillow...

*sigh* back to the TV.. Toodles! Will be posting Wednesday... :)

John King Egg Tarts - One U


I lup egg tarts. My All time favorite snack/dessert and what not. So, I was very excited when i saw that John King's egg tarts opened up a small branch in One U. (Near the old asia cafe)... Since lunch was not so satisfying, i decided to buy some eggie tarts to try. Now i heard they have many flavors besides the usual plain flavored but u know me, i like the original. No weird variations for me. I heard this is supposedly from Hong Kong, so all the more excited i was ...since Egg tarts originated from hong kong. Btw, i tried googling for this John dude, i only ended up getting results from KY Speaks, masak-masak, fooxion but not about the Original John king. (LOL), Anyone finds it, please let me know.

I bought 4 egg tarts, 1 BBQ Chicken Pie, and 2 Siew Pao. Just in case you think that it is only selling egg tarts, there is also "wife biscuit" and "hap tou sou" being sold. All a bit pricey i think. Total for all this was RM12.60.

So now comes the all important task. The taste review........


I didn't know there is a variation of pastry. This one i picked was the biscuit pastry style. I much more prefer the flaky pastry kind to this one. Made me feel like i was eating a miniature lemon meringue pie. :) The egg custard was strong in vanilla smell. Don't get me wrong. I like vanilla but i love the tong kee style better. Strong in Egg smell not vanilla smell. Dad, didn't really like this as he thought it was too buttery for him. ( Sigh ... him and his butter war ). Suprisingly lil' bro liked it..... Talk about different tastes in the family.


My dad thinks the B stands for butter here not barbeque. Hehe. I sometimes pity him, butter smells to him like what durian smells to people who do not enjoy it. Again, this one not so good the review.

Finally the siew paos. Ok, this one is not bad. Please note this is a halal establishment so don't be thinking there is some porker in here. To replace the texture of what you get from "char siew" they put mushrooms inside. Which both my dad and i enjoyed. This one gets our Paws Up vote. But, to be real honest, this taste much better if it is not halal. However, i guess to cater for a wider taste, there is no choice.

Overall rating: So-so only. I don't mind the siew pao but i think i prefer my tong kee eggies compared to this one. Or any other Egg tart in a Dim Sum establishment. Good egg tarts look like this -loh. I might go and try their other flavors just to settle my curiosity. *meows*
