Hup Toh Soh @ Ching Han Guan

To shoot photos for this post was very difficult. My father kept eating my subjects -_________-during the shoot.

Finally after a lot of searching, there is a shop in Ipoh that sells my favorite Chinese biscuits and turns out, it's my friend's shop! Do you all sense an ADV? Nah, don't think my friend knows i am writing this but i thought it is good to let others know that... if you crave for traditional Chinese biscuits, you can find them! Unfortunately, it is in Ipoh :P. I am sure Chinatown has it, but it gives me a good reason to always head back to my hometown.

I headed back to Ipoh to visit my grandma recently. At the same time, i thought it was a good time to head over to my friend's shop whom i have not visited at all before. His shop, which he runs with his family. If i google the shop, seems that it is been around since 1949! By the way, their shop also feels as if it is from a different era, and naturally so, it's situated in the pre-war shops along the main street in Ipoh. While their are famous for the meat floss biscuit, i was actually more interested in their Hap Tou Sou and Chicken Biscuits!

Ching Han Guan-001

Hap Tou Soh is translated loosely to Walnut biscuits. But.... looking at the recipe, i hardly see any walnuts in it. In fact, traditionally, this biscuit is made of LARD! However, i don't think Ching Han Guan makes it with lard, i suspect a lot of people use shortening these days to replace lard. I like this biscuit because it reminds me a lot of my childhood in Ipoh. Every New Year, my grand aunty will bring 2 big tins of this for us! Back then, you can eat as many as you want. Now ... watch your Cholestrol!

So when i saw this @ CHG, i needed to buy some to sample. Since my Aunt stopped making them 10 years ago, we went through a drought of Hap Tou Sou -_-. Though my mom has the recipe, she admits that there are some missing portion she cannot figure out to make the recipe. Sometimes when that happens, she tells me "go and buy lah!". Actually, it takes skill to make this biscuit. Other than my grand aunt, i think this is the only other place that makes good Hup Toh Soh according to the standards i like!

Ching Han Guan also has this nice thin Chicken biscuits. The direct chinese translation is Kai Chai Peng ( Chicken Little Biscuits!)  I like the thin variety and used to get my fix from Bidor when we had to travel the old roads. Ching Han Guan's one is much healthier than my Bidor version, thin and light and happens to be my grandma's favorite as well. It sells for 6.90 a pack if i am not mistaken. Oh look, a subject has disappeared from the plate!

Ching Han Guan-002

Anyway, those interested, the address is pretty clear on the pack and they have a webpage as well.

Short post for the weekend! :)

The Reunion Dinner

As a kid, reunion dinners meant eating alot. Really Alot. When grandpa was alive ( and great grandma ), reunion dinners we must have many dishes, at least about 7 or 8. While later i suffered some form of constipation ( ahem ) i was a bit terrified at the thought of reunion dinners as great grandma used to star at us eating. Chopstick habits were observed during dinners and it was seemed so formal.  There was always chicken, duck, fish, pork, sausages etc in reunion dinners - plus it was always a must to sit at tables to eat together.

As i grew up, the reunion dinners had a different meaning altogether.  The number of people begin to lessen but i slowly developed the real meaning of reunion dinner. Formats changed, there were more talking and catching up with family members. Number of food dishes did not lessen - till everyone cholestrol levels hit sky high. And with grandma being my only remaining grandparent, the meaning is not lost to me that we should cherish such events all the more.  She used to cook splendid dishes during reunion dinners. Every year besides the standard chicken, duck, fish, pork, sausages, there is always a special dish from her. Sometimes it was pork rolls ( this was pretty awesome but a lot of work ) dumplings etc so that there is something different. However, since she was getting old, we had less and less of that. Grandma now sits and relaxes and waits for reunion dinner to be served! Perks of getting older :)

Reunion 2010-010V1
Grandma enjoying the keropok we fried earlier. She loves crunchy stuff.

This year, our reunion dinner is much simpler. Well there is only 6 of us. We really cannot eat up a storm. ( I heard in China, reunion dinners go up to 15 dishes etc ) For us, it is more of being together. My uncle in Australia has never been able to make it back as being a professor in Uni, term starts right smack in CNY time.

Reunion 2010-015
We kept it about 5 dishes + soup. Grandma hates dry rice.  Must have is duck and chicken. Kai, Ngap. You get the drift and some greens to wipe up the oil. And my favorite - Chinese sausages. :)

Reunion 2010-014

The duck comes from the Famous Canning Garden Restaurant Hong Kong. It's also called the Divine duck by Malaysian Insider. We order it a few days in advance for Reunion Dinner. And when you go to collect it, the duck is piping steam hot. Otherwise, if you are eating the next day, they will give it an  oil bath to retain it's crispy skin.  I was always suspicious the person cutting the duck took some liberties with some pieces. And i never caught him. This year the son of the owner decided to do the cutting himself. No missing pieces this year.  There is a kick ass chilli sauce with the duck itself that i cannot do without. Seems like i am the only in the family that eats the sauce!

Reunion 2010-013

Home styled steamed chicken. The skin sends shivers down my spine for some reason. That's a full chook here. Plus alot of grounded ginger to go with.

Dinner took 2 hours. In grandma's case ... cause she got distracted listening to all of us talk. So the food going into her mouth was also slowed down.  However she did enjoy herself immensely. Let's hope there are more of such dinners to come.

Happy New Year :)

Russell-003
It's quite obvious sometimes, i bore my dog to death. I will be talking and talking and he will be remotely NOT interested in what i have to say. And he does show his "boredom" by yawning extremely wide. Well. Yawn at me some more lah. *meh* You get silly captions next to your picture.

Backyard neko-004

Happy new year everyone :)  from the kucings and the anjings of this blog.  Drive Safe and don't over eat, drink (!!!!) , gamble. This is as CLOSE as a semblance of a tiger ( feline, has stripes of black, red and white, solitary) i found in my picture collection. Shinen Omedetou!! :)

Restaurant Kok Thai @ Kinta City

I am catching up with my January posts in February.  Humbug. And since it is CNY, TIME TO DO A CHINESE FOOD POST!

Grandma's B'day 2010-018

Well, this is a home town post though, I have been to Kok thai several times, but have not really taken a camera there before. On most occassions i have been there, either it was an unhappy event that we needed to eat food there or it was i forgot to bring my camera. But this time around i brought it and it was a happy event. My paternal grandma's b'day :). I have come to significantly value my grandparent even more what with the lost of my maternal grandma in December.  I can count myself lucky to have grandparents because I know alot of kids my age actually never knew their grandparents or were not close to grandparents. I was lucky in a sense both paternal and maternal grandparents had a turn to take care of me when my parents were in sabbatical in U.S. [ they left me behind.................. :( ]

Every year, since Grandpa died, we make it a point that all of us that can come back, will come back for grandma's b'day. Normally we have a simple lunch or dinner at a restaurant. My uncle from Australia made it back for the event as well so it was good to catch up with my uncle. Who unfortunately decided to glue himself to the TV because of Australian Open * grin *.  While he watched, i was pretty much taken by the Rolex ads. In the end, I wanted a rolex watch for no reason. I didn't get it anyway. Too pricey.

Kok Thai is quite an old establishment in Ipoh. Situated opposite of Jaya Jusco, it serves pretty good food at reasonable places. But parking sucks. Again. *sigh*. Ok, yes Uli, Ipoh has parking problems as well. Especially if you have a wedding dinner around here .. gosh the whole road will booked up! Ok it is not as bad as pantai seafood, you can still park behind and walk to the front.

Since this is lunch, the menu is not as heavy as our normal choices for dinner. Grandma loves fish, so it will always appear in our events :).

We started off with soup and this is my first time trying this Buddha jumping the wall soup. ( Is this right? ) I must say i thought it was a dish not a soup. I must say i felt this was one .. rather fishy soup. It is full of abalone, fish maw ( or lips. Or fish body parts ) scallops ( this i like ), mushroom and chicken. It was rather oily though, and i felt the smell was bit of a put off. But after a few sips, it was tasting alright. I guess i need to acclimatize to the fish smell. However, check out the oil below. Exxon Mobil would have been really proud.
Grandma's B'day 2010-011

Grandma's B'day 2010-020
Greens are always important. We had Yin Choi fried with garlic. I detect a strong use of chinese wine here because it tastes really good :) But notice the oil layers again. I thought the veggie dish could be slightly bigger as we had no rice really for our lunch.

Grandma's B'day 2010-016
Mom thought it was gross i need to point out eyeballs to people. :) Yeah, well, your daughter is pretty gross at times. This above, is just minor grossness. We normally steamed fish so my grandma can eat this. She likes fish but hates veggie because it makes her chew pretty long. (Sometimes she looks like quite a bovine, chewing away there for some time if the veggie is old )  Quite nice though this dish. Look at the cheeks of the fish. Full of meat!  Speaking of eyeballs, one of my cousins had a grandma that loved eating fish eyeballs. What is so fun with eating something so small??  The fish was fresh and quickly polished up and ended up looking more like something out of Fringe.
Grandma's B'day 2010-017
The eye ball by this time has mysteriously disappeared. My,what sharp teeth the fish has.

No birthday is complete without noodles. So we ordered sang meen. I loike. :) But again a bit oily. And before i can say "TAKE PHOTO" ... the waitress whisked the plate off to be split up arghhhhhhh.. i thought we are not suppose to "split the noodles during birthdays"??
Grandma's B'day 2010-014

Everyone's favorite fowl was next. Duck. Roast duck to be exact. I hope i have this for new year again :).  Can you guys see the duck head here with the beak partially off?  Nice and tender duck this one with little game smell.
Grandma's B'day 2010-022

Kok Thai is also famous for introducing rather strange dishes to the menu to spice up their menu. And this time, they did it with a vegetable. This is... Palm tree. Like in Oil palm tree? The center bit? All chopped up and fried with prawns. Has an immensely sweet ( but not sickeningly sweet ) taste and felt as if i was eating asparagus. In fact the texture and taste is a bit similar. The dish was quite fragrant as well. And the cat family approves this dish. Probably i don't see my mom buying this veggie to eat daily but something to try in restaurants next time when i am there. I don't see the KL restaurants trying this. Sometimes, it amazes me what people can cook up next.
Grandma's B'day 2010-024

There was free tau foo fah dessert but it was .. meh. Not so great to shout about. There are better ones.

I hope grandma had a good time. She looked pleased to see everyone ( not sure if she could remember all of us ) :D. Grandma, happy b'day and hope you have many more to come.

Bee Giak - Ipoh Selatan

The above ... is my current state of mine. I am extremely .... annoyed, upset with things going on in work. Who wants to hire a rather old business analyst?? Please inquire within.

Oh btw, .. this is also a very long post, luckily still in the month of August. Hahaha. I have been pretty addicted to the FB game of Restaurant City, that blogging is like so much slower now. Don't get addicted to FB games!! Anyway, i went back to Ipoh early August to visit grandpa's grave, for his death anniversary. Since this year, Aunty is maidless, er .. every meal is eating out. To be honest... after 2nd day, i jelak already as sometimes the food can be quite oily.

We originally were "scheduled" to go Unique Seafood. In fact, my aunty "tim" my brother to belanja, ( *snicker* ) but then it rained and we were worried our grandma would have difficulties managing the walk across the car park. Bee Giak was choosen as the backup.

The rather empty restaurant of Bee Gaik at 12:30pm Ipoh time. Now, at 12:30 lunch, when we walked in, the restaurant seem rather empty. ( This being Ipoh ) and we were the first customer. Grandma loudly remarked "why is there nobody in the restaurant?" - *ROFL* ... Grandma is so droll at times. She may be spaced out sometimes but then she still has a keen sense of observation. When she requires it.

Bee Giak is quite an old establishment in Ipoh Selatan, been there since Ipoh Selatan popped up and i have been there a few times. Specializing in Nyonya cuisine ( hence the deco ) it also does some cantonese dishes.

We were quite full from breakfast and last night's din-din, we opted for noodles and fried rice, hoping it was light. I was so wrong. :( - the portions turned out pretty huge... when i am feeling rather full, i think my jaw dropped to the ground. ( like those in the anime cartoons ).

First up, braised Yee Mee.. This was rather yummy - actually it is my favorite dish from this restaurant. The mee is generous as you can see from the plate ... i thought i tasted lard... which makes it yummier but what mom says i should put in my post is .... er could do with better fish cakes. The fish cake that came with this dish was definitely frozen before and still had that "frozen" freezer taste. It would have been much better with homemade yue wat than frozen fish cakes. In mom's eyes, this could seriously improved.

My jaw dropped a few levels more when i saw the wat tan hor... aiyo... So big the bowl for 6 of us. :( *Eeek* I am just wondering how to finish this bowl of stuff. I think it could have fed 10 persons! Maybe they thought not many people are coming - so.. stuff us up at the same time! Plus i have never seen wat tan hor so soupy before. I like it with liquid but not that much. The noodles were alright but not enough wok hei in the noodles itself. We could not finish this dish definitely in the end.

After the large noodles, we finally had some fried rice. Oh.. the hole in the rice is what i did er before taking photographs of it. The smell of the rice was pretty nice, i guess they had enough wok hei here for the rice. But again, the serving is so large, we had to pack it back otherwise it goes to waste. I am not sure if you notice, lettuce and fried rice goes very well together!

Total for lunch was around RM70+ i think, and yes, my brother paid for the lunch. Hehehe. I think this place is alright. Good for certain dishes but must improve on size ( reduction that is ) and also making sure that ingredients used are fresh. Otherwise if it taste good in some but not in orders, it is a waste actually.

How's about ice?

On such a hot day like this, i could only crave for the above.... anyone knows a good ice kacang stall in PJ? Subang? No? Guess I have to settle for my magnum in the fridge. By the way - this lovely ice kacang comes from Ipoh, at the shops near the stadium. Grandma could also finish 1 whole bowl on her own ( that is how much she likes it hehehe )

Sun Mar Poh @ Ipoh

I popped back to ipoh last 2 weekend agos, to do some "christian style" grave cleaning ( meaning no burning, no tossing of paper, just flowers and weeding ) and t visit my paternal and maternal grandmas. It was my late grand-dad's birthday and it coincided with easter as well as the week after ching ming. Most of the time, when we go back, we will make a visit to his grave, lay some flowers, scream at the sight of lizards ( that would be me ) but it is also a good time to catch up and sit down as a family for dinner with aunt and my grandma. ( And give my aunt any reason not too cook for a fussy lot like us )

This restaurant has been some time in ipoh since i can remember but only recently we have been going. Was one of my grand-dad's favorite restaurant ( where the restaurant is still open, his last favorite one closed down because the owner over gambled ) and since his death 4 years ago, we have been making some visits to this place. In most cases, i veto everyone else's choices so that i can come here. Dictatorship in the making. But this place, if you are looking for home cooked food at reasonable prices do drop by. The name, Sun Mar Poh. And the Mar must be said with a higher tone. My cantonese is left much to be desired at times causing insane fits of giggles to others... Mar Poh means "TWIN TREASURES" as dad says.

Now, firstly, come early ya. Dinner crowd in ipoh starts 6:30pm onwards, when i reached, the place was already quite full except for the larger tables they had. The place is also not very condusive for talking i found out except for the occasional shout over the table. But it is cool and clean without being too presumptious. And looking at the gaudy red cloth, you can tell this place is as simple as it gets. This place however, might be a place where people stare at you if you bring your big a** camera in. I know i got some of the wrong kind when i started flashing away... "Them bloody tourist"...

For the 6 of us, we had some greens, a fish ( grand ma's fav), pork ( ooh me and dad's fav not to mention bro and aunt - that proves we are COMPLETELY related ), egg and lala for din-din that night..

First up the greens, i think this is called young... french beans(?) i really dont like this vegetable because of the "rubbery" feel on my teeth but nevertheless i still eat as greens is good for you. Done up in what is known as sauteed with garlic, the veg was fresh but a bit tiny in my terms. The fried garlic with this was quite nice without being overpoweringly strong.

Now, everyone knows of my lack of affinity with shellfish. But since everyone else likes shellfish, i could only stop and stare at them eat this. However, i tried the sauce out for my rice, exceptionally good ;). Nice thick sauce, not too sweet, with a tang and a kick to boot. Presentation as you can see is not their top form here ( see dripping sauce on the side ) but everyone likes this sauce and done perfectly well here.

Since grandma can't really chew hard stuff, we ordered something easier on the teeth which is the 3 types of egg steamed - which is normal eggs, salted eggs and preserved eggs steamed together. Mixed with white rice, this is comfort food for the soul. Mom thinks this was not "salty" enough but i thought this was alright. There were bits of minced pork in it as well for added texture.

There was a fish but didnt make the pictures as it went by too fast. :(. Piece de resistance that night was the kau yoke. Or stewed pork with yam. Some how or rather one of my face book buddies thought it was "dog meat"..... obviously the tone was slightly different... Anyway, sun mar poh's version of this dish is quite nice. The meat was tender and no pork smell. Look at the many layers of fat. According to dad, this was a good piece for kau yoke. Only thing we found odd was the yam was a bit .. sour. I thought it was just my piece, but everyone complained of a similar taste. Despite that, the meat itself was good enough for us to give it a thumbs up. Aunty walloped the lettuce - saying that it was extremely yummy.

Now, after all that food, this only caused us RM89 dollars, that includes fish! Compared to KL, this probably will be a bit more closer to RM100+ or more for 6 persons. If you are not fussy about the locale and the noise factor here, this might be the place for you. Lots of KL people drop by to this shop as well. So, if you like to go for cheap eats in IPOH that tastes like good home cooking drop by to:

Restaurant Sun Mar Poh,
Jalan Dato Lau Pak Khuan,
Ipoh Gardens ( same row as KFC )

p/s: go early ya, this place can get really crowded.

Ipoh Garden East Ocean Restaurant

There must be a limitation to how a long a restaurant name maybe - Ipoh Garden East Ocean Restaurant is what we call "the mouthful restaurant". We went there recently for my Grandma's b'day celebrations. Uncle from Oz came back to Ipoh as well so we made it a reunion dinner of sorts. Despite having a lot of restaurants in ipoh, this was choosen because it's near to my house in Ipoh... plus the food is not too bad here. Improved a lot since i was there about 2-3 years back. Cook change kwa....

East Ocean by the way has a few branches in ipoh, the most famous being in Menglembu where they serve crabs for their four seasons. These restaurants though not great in decor, serve good value for money food. So.. if you are looking to "pai-chau" ( wedding dinner ) ... try some ipoh restaurants *grinz*

Now, we had no set, just ordered some of our favorite foods to eat. No yee sang as well as we normally had our home made ones later.

First up, family favorite of Kwai far Cheet or Sang Choy pao. Traditionally, this is served with eggs, char siew and shark fins. Carrots and bean sprouts add color and texture to this dish. Once cooked, it is served with lettuce. Wrap the eggs in the lettuce and bit it in. The combination is heaven. The cold lettuce against the savoury contents is simply divine. We didn't however go for sharkfin but when for fish maw instead. .. a bit creepy the feeling of eating maw... but otherwise i like this dish. And despite the large dish, we wallopped it all, maw and all.

Grandma's a fish person so naturally we had a fish dish. I am not sure what fish this was but it was pretty darn good. Especially the cheeks bit. And the sauce, would be great if i had some rice.. *yumz*. Oh btw, it's only half a fish. I wonder where the other half went to. I only like the veggie in the next dish as i really, really do not like sea cucumber and the other stuff they put in this dish. Call me silly but for me this is just a no no. Despite that, the sauce was quite good and veggie is not the old broccoli as some restaurants put in.

My favorite for the day, which was garlic prawns! Garlic big head prawns to be exact. I had like 4-5 of these babies.. Yummy!! And speaking of which, this was the dish that caused me to have green fingers! I wiped my fingers on the cloth provided, turns out they dyed their cloth and the color ran on my fingers. I thought i turned alien!
At one point, my aunt remarked to me i seem to like to take arty-farty shots like below. tee-hee-hee... yeah, why not. Food must look good as well. This was quite an excellent dish and yet simple. Only gripe is despite having such a big head, there was not really a lot of meat in the prawn. It was a small prawn!

Finally, it's not birthday without birthday noodles! I so like this dish :) noodles are my favorite, had two bowls to be exact.

That was the last dish of the day before we convened for the dinner. For so many dishes, costs us about RM300 for about 8 of us. Can't really remember the address but it is near the old Parkson in Ipoh.

Oh by the way this is a late greating but Happy Niu Year everyone ... tee-hee!

Curry Laksa @ Restaurant Ah Chow, Ipoh

Last week was my trip back to Ipoh and naturally any trip back to ipoh is indulging in eating. (Fatness first here i come ). Breakfast is usually a time we explore new places to eat, so dad suggested a new curry noodles place along Jalan Bandar Timah in Ipoh. It is the same row as Restaurant CT and my other favourite curry noodles place.

It is a very plan sounding restaurant compared all th
e loong and the sins around here. It's simply called Restaurant Ah Chow. Inside this seriously small and confined space you have 2 stalls. One selling other noodles, while the main stall sells - Curry Noodles :) When i first saw the siew yoke on the curry noodles - i grinned. Dad ordered 4 bowls of the same stuff - curry with mee hoon and mee. The necessary order of ipoh white coffee was a must - i must admit i was so sleepy that morning without the white coffee i would have keeled of the floor.

Finally, the noodles came and the smell of curry wa
s quite ahem... like a whiff of perfume for me. It is not as small as the one i at my normal breakfast place. Wah..... i was think can i finish this bowl ah.
Let's go to the taste assessment .... Curry hotness- more than my favourite place. Lots of Peppermint. me likes. Eaten with the curry it actually dulls the heat of the curry. Lots of chicken breast- i like as well - i hate bones and big prawn. ( Plural ) Favourite place has no prawn. Char Siew is shredded here ( hmmm there had big pieces of char siew ) and HORROR! No siew yoke. I thought i was the one missed out but no, dad, mom and Lil Bro' did not have siew yoke as well. I guess that is extras i need to order :(. Was quite disappointed nevertheless it did not stop me from eating.

Did you know, not every place puts peppermint leaves in their curry noodles?

Even though, this is not as well known as other places for Curry noodles it had a steady stream of customers to this place ordering Curry Laksa. If you are not into hot stuff, there are other things you can try like Clay Pot noodles, wantan mee or ching tong noodles. I was quite stuff actually after this big bowl of noodles. Cost of breakfast - less than 20 bucks inclusive of drinks - Ipoh is cheap :)

Anyway, if you are dying to try curry noodles in Ipoh, you can drop by this place:

Restaurant Ah Chow,
Jalan Bandar Timah, (ipoh old town)
Ipoh, Perak

PS: Come early. It gets crowded fast.

No more 3rd party food review - Curry Laksa in Ipoh

Meow Notes: my mom is busy yelling at me not to scratch my sunburn. How can something be painful and itchy at the same time. Calamine lotion is god sent... looking pink is also not very fashionable.

It's amazing sometimes you can go back home time more than once :). I went back a week ago to attend my gf's wedding. At the same time my aunty and cousin from Singapore dropped by. ( Aunty is a lean mean eating machine for someone who is 70+ ) Now, for her, eating in ipoh is like she reached - food heaven. Compared to prices and sizes in singapore, Ipoh is cheap in a whole lot of ways.

So, on Saturday, she wanted curry noodles. Ipoh, has a few places that has famous curry noodles. One near the old police station that has moved across the road. (Also known
as the super hot one ) For me, it is still the one in jalan bukit timah. Less famous but equally tasty as well as it won't burn your tongue off. <>

I reviewed this place before -but only ate the wantan meen not the curry noodles. Since my tummy was behaving fine and i was hungry, i decided to try curry noodles for my self.

Some finer points of eating curry noodles at this shop:
1) Come early for breakfast - 9:00am is not considered early. 8:00am is a good time
2) Do not confuse the cook with too many variations. Don't like it - take it out.
3) Wear black t-shirts. ( that's me. Miss Splatter )

4) If he forgets your order, remind him. Dun grumble ( that is for my mom ) hehehe.

So why the title 3rd party food review- well? cause i always don't
eat this dish but i review on behalf of the eater. I normally cannot take curry during breakfast. But today, tummy was behaving so i thought i will try it.

Curry laksa in ipoh is different from those in kl. The use of peppermint leaves is quite common here and actually enfuses the flavors more. And, they use a lot of pork as well ( i hear cheers ). Siew Yoke and char siew is generously added with chicken and prawns. Now, can you get any
better than that? We ordered 4 bowls of noodles, 2 mee hoon and mi, the other two kway teow.

While bringing your order, you can smell the curry already. <>sert drool > Some how i think curry goes better with mee and bee hoon not kway teow. However, i dun care, the soup is the same. The portion is not that huge, of course this is breakfast.

Check out the nice pieces of siew yoke and the dark char siew. Hey this char siew is as good as those in meng kee. Yumz.... And the part of a prawn which got cut off by my camera.

Not satisfied by curry noodles, my aunty decided she wanted the fried kuay teow. My cousin and i asked her quickly- hey you eating it yourself or you are just trying? She says she is getting a plate for all of us to share. O_o. I was very full already. For someone much older than me she can really pack a lot in her belly. The funny thing about Ipoh CKT is this, er.. chilli is not fried with it, comes on a side plate. Though the noodles had the "wok hei" people like, but i still find that if the chilli is fried with it, the flavor is more enhanced. Anyway, we still finished it. After much egging from someone. Can you imagine after breakfast, my aunt went to kampung simee to look for more things to eat? ... *RESPECT*

Oh by the way, their ching tong noodles is not bad as well. If you have whimpy stomach like mine in the morning. Anyway do try it when you are in Ipoh :) And so ends my review- finally, no third party review. I actually tried the curry noodles.
