Kuishinbo, Suntech City, Singapore

sigh... i sometimes wish i could change blogger templates easily. Just discovered i, an IT person is html illiterate... so i can't make nice stuff like others.. *Frus*... the weekend is just so so. the grey weather here is good for sneeping.... *zzzz*

So, i tot i will finish up the last of my Singaporean food review by reviewing Kuishinbo@Suntech City... It's buffet style Japanese food and let me tell ya, this is by far the most pricey buffet i ate... S46 *HORROR*..... Ok so happens this is TT's b'day so i am willing to splurge-otherwise i would be eating at Newton Food Court if it is not the case...*bwahaha- stingy neko*
Entrance of Kuishibo- note the line...

Kuishinbo i must say is strategically located- in the middle of a fantastically huge shopping mall. I mean i walked till i popped that day and also shopped till i dropped that day. Now, if you have a huge group- please reserved a spot. We had 20 people that day and luckily we booked a spot.

They are not kidding about the crab- it's the real stuff- Hokkaido -kitta!!

At first, i concluded this place is like Shogun buffet ( not that i have been there - but maybe comparing it with malaysian buffet experience ) but it was not. Food is suprisingly good here. Not as on par to Rakuzen, Mizu or Aoyama but good for buffet food.

Let's see... what's their range.... they have:
  • Sushi- maki, rolls, inaris... etc
  • Teppanyaki made to order -bring your little table clip with the table number and go to the teppan bar to order your choice of meat
  • Hot pot bar- order udon, nabe etc from here
  • Tempura bar- mmmm... i love the tempura sauce and daikon
  • Fresh Salad bar
  • Oden bar-OOOH!!! This was nice
  • Soup bar
  • Fresh seafood bar
  • Agemono bar - fried stuff
  • Ahem- my fav ---> Dessert bar
Hot pot bar-see that paper pots and on the right it is the udon & soba. The amount of soya sauce we kiasuly took that night.

With so many choices- i actually was lo
ss for words at one point. Now, unlucky me had tummy problem that day - so i didn't get to eat much thanks to the alcohol the previous night.

Well, i still had to eat...so i trotted off to the bars to get my fill, please note, i occasionally have weird taste in food so don't laugh or balk when u see my stranger choices

Top Photo: Egg Mayo Roll(?), Unagi/Soft Shell Crab Roll, Kani roll
Bottom Pic: Curry Chicken (Yes, i like japanese curry), Tempura,Cold Lotus Salad, Fried Ramen

I must say the food was good. The ramen was a bit hard - this was the only stuff i didn't like and the curry - was so-so. [ This is an acquired test- my friends all find me strange for eating japanese curry, when i am malaysian ]. Now the other thing that got us eating alot was, the cold Lotus salad. Made up of cut lotus sliced thinly.... and with some sauce that is not mayo, mixed with other vege- this was refreshingly yummy. After i took some, the rest started getting more of this. The tempura- was great. Crispy and didn't turn soggy too fast. Added with freshly grated daikon & sauce- hontoni oishiikatta neh!!

Halfway through our meal, a bell started to ring, and the PA system kept repeating the theme song for Kuishinbo- that signifies they had free stuff to give away for the first 30 custo
mers that reached the designated bar.... It was grilled saba for the first round and 2nd round grilled king prawns with cheese ( that didnt sound japanese did it? ) .. Interesting concept and you get to see everyone rushing to the counter... So, since we slow, we settled for the below order of ... er.. not sure what it is but it is like nabe only with paper.

Yummy paper hot pot - Big Mussels

Miso soup with rice, their logo, and the sashimi everyone was raving about.

Stomach not feeling too great then, i stopped eating and watched the others eat... Then i got bored so i decided to take more pictures... Now ... everyone is so busy stuffing their face, i just happily snapped away at their food- No yelling at neko for taking pictures now.. :P I need to put a add for Kuishinbo here- seems their sashimi is to die for. EXTREMELY FRESH and extremely juicy, it had thumbs up from my 3 friends who were with me.

Ah, my favorite meal of the day has arrived- DESSERT. Despite my tummy ache, dessert is never forsaken and we had perhaps the strangest looking dessert that night..... sperm shaped jelly.... *blink* everyone. It's sperm shaped but made out of dunno-what. Tasted Awful! See the middle picture about the macha ice-cream?? Tifa gleefully brought it back from the Dessert bar giggling away so everyone dug their spoon in to try this

Left-Right: Multi colored Konnayaku, Konyaku with nata de coco, Very bad green tea cake, and Green tea Macha with er.. Sperm shaped Jelly.

Close up of you know what.... Yuckky stuff.

Was a tad bit disappointed with the dessert but since the rest of the stuff was good, am not going to fault them. .... I still hate the jelly in the green tea macha but hey, if you don't like it chuck it away. The ice-cream was pretty good. Now, not satisfied we had bad ice-cream we ordered peach ice-cream..

Peach Ice Cream.

Ok- after all that, we paid up and then .. .went for more.. shopping. I think it is my one off japanese buffet visits or rather once in a while dining. Still prefer the fine dining concept. This kinda makes it mass market food... Whack me if you will :) Mizu, Rakuzen anyone??

Food Republic, Wisma Atria-Singapore

I AM BACK!!!!!!!!!!! Yes, i feel better after some Ipoh TLC from Grandma and Aunt plus some family bonding time. What will i do without them... To be honest, i slept most of the time in Ipoh as well, so that could be the reason I am feeling a bit better... Or is it the Yoga that got me going again..

Well, i have to stick to singapore posts this week, cause i left my other drive in the office ( with all the melaka and other pictures :( ).. There is this japanese restaurant in Singapore i wanted to post up but .. it will have to wait.... Let me tell you how expensive kopi tiam can be in singapore.... :P

This is the day we were going back to KL, we decided to have a
nother breakkie round with Tifa, FF, her hubby (CG) and her cousin ( nice girl! glad to have met her )So TIFA suggested Food Republic as a venue. This time around i woke up the earliest! neyeh-neyeh-neyeh :P... so with my trusty map and MRT ticket, i hopped on to the Outram station train to Orchard Road...

Note to Self: Sunday is a very packed day in MRT.... all the maids and all are havin
g a day out.... At one point, i felt i was blending in with them.... ... luckily the rest came other wise this cat will be upset. Plus... my coffee withdrawals were starting... eyes were a bengkak and head a spinning...

Food Republic is actually a more up markety food court in Wisma Atria along Orchard Road. It houses a variety of food but we decided to eat... yes, kopi-tiam food at a place called Toast Box. Looking @ the Q of people, this seems to be the mo
st popular place to eat in that area....
Now, i was not very impressed with this place ( not because of the food or service ) because when CG ( ff's hubby ) tried to take photos of the activities behind the counter, he was told off by one of the ladies working behind the counter.... I mean, Kopi tiam way of working is no secret... dun have to be so "par-pai" mah
The menu at Toast Box...

We ordered the sets so, here come the food pictures...
My order of Thick Bread with Kaya.

FF's rather oily order of Peanut & Toast

Toast Bread with butter & Sugar

How many of you all remembered that dish of Toast Bread with butter & sugar? mmmm.... i remember this dish, at one stage when i was younger, i ate at least 4 pieces of bread just because of the sugar!

Each set we ordered, we got coffee of our choice and 2 soft boiled eggs. I didnt take pictures of those - cause it i was just lazy then. :P

How do i rate this place? Food wise ok-...Kaya is the same where ever, though i feel being malaysian, i like kaya with strong pandan smell. It's about S3.20 a set, which they say is cheaper than those at the old town kopi tiam.

Hmm... think i will come back to try other stuff at Food Republic but not toast box. Interestingly enough, i saw a shop selling kuih tutu there... hmmm.... anyway, those curious about food republic... they are even in wikipedia... wah...

Brunch @ Cedele's - Wheelock, Singapore

I discovered a few things in Singapore. They are 1) i am a shopaholic 2) i am not the clubbing kind 3) ... i am too old to be clubbing :(....... Sigh.. Age catches up with you when you join young 'uns out for a night. Possibly it is not my thing...

Well, anyway, that's why it's called a brunch post. The day i hit Singapore, i accompanied my GF who is also my gracious host to a club named St James Powerhouse near VivoCity in Singapore. That went on till 3am and finally got to sleep @ 5 something after a long chat. By the time we both woke up i was suffering from Coffee withdrawal symptoms, she from one too many drinks. :P .... my head was banging like bongo drums.. 9:00am +, Tifa started calling, both TT and myself still dead to the world. FF smsed later.. "where are u all".... my reply "still sleeping".... many sms'es later, we decide to go to Cedele's for brunch/lunch. I was hungry and craving for Coffee!! ( Original plan was to go to Marmalade Pantry, since it was TT's b'day, and Cedele's look tempting from their website - we changed place )Cedele's, is located at Wheelock Place, above Borders. Take the escalator that goes straight up, look for the bright yellow sign and follow your nose to the smell of bacon. (It's next to another good japanese restaurant called San)

The warm and comforting counter front... at this point I was salivating from smelling the coffee already. TT quickly booked a place for 6 persons and i promptly ordered from the long menu.

Be decisive- there are lots of choices above in this tome.

I promptly ordered my mocha latte and ask for pronto delivery... ( My coffee withdrawal symptoms goes on a high if i don't receive my first drink by 11:00am- it was already 12:30pm :( ) imagine my joy when the below showed up:

Aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh

Now, TT insisted on the Big Breakfast order from Cedele's. She was gushing about how tasty it was and i must not past it.. When she mentioned bacon, i say "OK!" This is one dish you cannot eat on your own for those with small small tummy.

The Big Breakfast

The Cedele's big breakfast consists of 2 scrambled eggs, a side salad, 2 pieces of warm bread, 3 pieces of bacon, sauteed button mushrooms and 2 pork sausages. One word... "heaven". I love the bacon (naturally). Now i am not normally a fan of english styled scrambled eggs, always was the fan of the malaysian version but this was nice. Though a bit wet, the eggs did have a taste i could not resist. The mushrooms were tasty. Sauteed in garlic with olive oil i believe, i could not stop picking this. Only qualm i have about this entire dish is the sausages were a bit too oily for me. ( What?? after all that bacon and sauteed mushroom??)

Note: Big Breakfast is served all day long

Please note that at this point, it was only TT and me polishing off this dish. FF, hubby, Tifa and her small bf were lost and late so we ordered first... TT was dying for them to come so she can order their house specials.

Tifa and her small BF ( batman nephew ) strolled in next. After setting her nephew up and ensuring his bladder was emptied, she was next to order. She was also starving and T
T insisted they ordered "pancakes". I wanted apple but then the wild blueberry was very tempting, guess what... we ordered both! It comes with a serving of either bacon ( yes! ) or sausage.
Wild Blueberry pancakes with Sausage.

Apple Cinnamon Pancake with Bacon

Notice at this point it is getting harder and harder to take photographers because the other 2 arrived and even after the 1st breakfast they were getting hungry.. We practice the hobbit habit of having "Second Breakfasts"...

It was Tifa's turn to "tim" someone to order something she likes, since we forced pancake on here. So CG had to order the ham and cheese sandwhich. Ok... it is very very big. Everyone's eyes popped when this arrived. CG quickly said- "YOU ALL ARE SHARING WITH ME!" TT already waived the white flag at us at this point.
This was not so much my favorite because i didn't really like cheese to begin with.

Final dish- something different, FF ordered Salmon Alfredo pasta in linguine. Mmmm, i like this dish. Normally i don't go for Alfredo because of the cream, but because we shared it amongst 5 people, Tifa's little nephew is not counted as an Adult, ... it was not bad.
All in all, with drinks and all, this set us back about S108, which is a bit pricey for breakkie and lunch but then again with food so good, it's hard not to say no...
