We came here ( lil bro and me ) after our Flash Photography class. Hungry, very tired ( actually not very hungry lah because Nikonian feed us very well ) we wanted to eat around the area. Both my brother and myself love Hokkien noodles. When we were young, particualarly myself, i remember this as the food, my dad, grandpa and us siblings used to eat after a movie at the Section 17 cinema :) Grandpa is no longer around, but dad... he's just lazy to go to a cinema and prefers the dvd version :).
There are 2 hokkien mee shops in D'sara Uptown. There is the D'sara uptown one and then there is Sentul Ah Yap. I chose the latter because it looks cleaner. Place was packed when we arrived, manage to get a seat near the corner and smelled the cockroach droppings some where. . -_________-. I am so anal sometimes about this kinda of stuff.
For two persons we ordered M size Hokkien mee with a side order of veggies to go with.
Please note! M was like size L. Frigtheningly large that i think 2-3 persons could have eaten it with no problem.
Taste wise, how is it? So so, i wouldn't say it is not good neither it is not bad either. Has wok hei and lots of lard if you like lard bits ( i don't, only the smell ) and i find it pale rather than the very dark ones i am used - like Chinese Squid ink pasta. Some how, i still prefer the ones i had in Section 17 when i was a wee lass itself. But this should pass for the time being while i am not in the vicinity of Section 17.
Veggie was alright, we finished that as we loved greens. Sentul Ah yap serves rice and other types of noodles as well. Luckily i was not ambitious that day to call a meat dish. Otherwise... I'd be exploding. Would i recommend this to others... maybe. All of us have different taste. Now.. i should be trying the Satay in that area next :)
